2 Jets Suffer Same Scary Problem Hours Apart at Major Airport
A major U.S. airport was hit by tire failures on two jets within hours of each other. The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation into both incidents, which took place Monday at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. They are the latest such problems at the city’s airports this month. American Airlines Flight 386 from LaGuardia Airport landed safely at about 2 p.m. despite bursting two tires, with fire crews surrounding the Boeing 737-800 as passengers were led down stairs to buses. “We thank our team members for their professionalism and we apologize to our customers for their experience,” American said, per ABC7 Chicago, adding the jet was pulled from service for inspection. United Flight 739 had the same problem hours later, arriving from Omaha, Nebraska, with the Airbus A320’s passengers also exiting via stairs, the station said. Just days earlier, a Phoenix-bound United jet scrapped its takeoff at O’Hare over a tire blowout, while a Southwest plane suffered tire trouble on its nose gear at Chicago Midway earlier this month. No one was hurt in any of the incidents.
