Newly installed executive producer Nick Bilton fired Pelley after a dramatic showdown over the future of <i>60 Minutes<\/i>.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Pelley, 68, who had worked at CBS since 1989 and served as a <i>60 Minutes<\/i> correspondent for more than two decades, was terminated on Tuesday after confronting Bilton and CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss during a staff meeting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Pelley demanded answers about a wave of firings at the network, including the departures of correspondents Cecilia Vega and Sharyn Alfonsi, longtime executive producer Tanya Simon, and executive editor Draggan Mihailovich. <\/p>\n<p>He also accused Weiss of having \u201cno qualifications\u201d for her job and of \u201cmurdering\u201d <i>60 Minutes<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>But the Fox News hosts argued Pelley had brought the situation on himself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis guy throws a tantrum in public view, then he leaks it to everyone to amplify his appearance as some kind of hero,\u201d co-host Greg Gutfeld said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe just looks like a cartoon because he is a cartoon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the second time\u2014he got axed from the anchor chair of the <i>CBS Evening News<\/i>. He got axed again,&#8221; co-host Jesse Watters added. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s been there for 37 years. He wanted to go, and it was his time to go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Co-host Martha MacCallum was equally unsympathetic, arguing Pelley intentionally torched the meeting because he knew his days at <i>60 Minutes<\/i> were numbered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he knew he was gonna get fired, so he blew up the meeting because he wanted to go out with a bang,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=834\">MAGA Architect Predicts Election Disaster for Trump<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Co-host Kayleigh McEnany, who served as White House press secretary during Donald Trump\u2019s first term, argued that the turmoil at <i>60 Minutes <\/i>was self-inflicted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people would argue, Jesse, that <i>60 Minutes<\/i> murdered itself,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Watters agreed, describing the show as \u201cbloated,\u201d \u201cwoke,\u201d and \u201cstuck in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He argued CBS would need to \u201cclean house\u201d and \u201cchange the culture\u201d if it hoped to reinvent the program.<\/p>\n<p>But Pelley has painted a different picture of the turmoil engulfing the show.<\/p>\n<p>In a lengthy statement released after his firing, the veteran correspondent accused CBS\u2019 new leadership of dismantling one of television journalism\u2019s most respected institutions in an effort to win favor with President Donald Trump.
