Lee, a Confederate general who was a major player in the Civil War.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The memorial was taken down in 2021, but suddenly reappeared in Charleston\u2019s Marion Square last December\u2014and Kilmeade thinks it should\u2019ve stayed gone.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIf you read his biography in his own words, he didn\u2019t want a statue,\u201d he told his co-hosts, swiftly sparking a debate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the statue is not the problem. It is getting the history right,\u201d Jones responded. \u201cThe statues are fine. Just don\u2019t think that he\u2019s a hero because he\u2019s not a hero. And so if you\u2019re using the statues as a teaching tool is one thing. But if you\u2019re just every bad figure in American history that you\u2019re taking down, I just don\u2019t think that\u2019s the right message.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kilmeade made clear that he wasn\u2019t taking anything away from Lee\u2019s military accolades, pointing out that he \u201cfought well\u201d and was \u201cconsidered one of the best generals in the country, if not the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=832\">CNN Data Guru Floored by Huge \u2018Revolt\u2019 From Key Trump Voters<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou read his biography, his quotes in the last years of his life, he\u2019s like, \u2018I don\u2019t want a statue,\u2019 right? Because people still looked up to him and he was a fine general\u2014there was once a stone at West Point for him, a placard for him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m surprised to hear you say that,\u201d Earhardt chimed in. \u201cBecause you always say, \u2018Don\u2019t erase history.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Beast has reached out to Fox News for comment.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, during the height of the Black Lives Matter protests, Kilmeade pleaded with protesters taking down controversial statues and memorials to study history \u201cbefore you decide to destroy it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLearn about it, don\u2019t condemn it,\u201d he said at the time. \u201cAnd don\u2019t be arrogant about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But he appeared to sing a different tune on Thursday.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not saying forget who Robert E. Lee did good,\u201d he told his co-hosts. \u201cBut I\u2019m just saying, to have Robert E.
