{"id":795,"date":"2026-06-05T20:13:20","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T20:13:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=795"},"modified":"2026-06-05T20:13:20","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T20:13:20","slug":"trump-goons-tell-court-he-can-bulldoze-statue-of-liberty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=795","title":{"rendered":"Trump Goons Tell Court He Can \u2018Bulldoze\u2019 Statue of Liberty"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>President Donald Trump could tear down the Statue of Liberty if he wanted, a Justice Department lawyer argued Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=793\">Trump Threat to Sabotage Kennedy Center Sparks Desperate Scramble<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yaakov Roth, an attorney with the DOJ\u2019s Civil Division, faced a two-hour grilling before a federal appeals court as he scrambled to defend Trump\u2019s $400 million White House ballroom in a messy legal battle.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Judge Patricia Millett, an Obama appointee, needled Roth on the destruction of the 123-year-old East Wing to make way for the president\u2019s 90,000-square-foot pet project.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIf the government decides very quickly and bulldozes the Statue of Liberty\u2014the people whose ancestors, that was the first thing they saw coming to this country\u2014but the government moved too fast, nothing can be done?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that\u2019s right, yes,\u201d Roth responded.<\/p>\n<p>The remark concluded a testy exchange where Millett posed a hypothetical question: if the descendant of a slave who built the White House routinely walks by the structure to admire their ancestors\u2019 work, \u201cdoes the loss of the ability to see that sacrifice that was made\u2014does that count as an injury in its own right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the hypothetical is that the White House has already been bulldozed, uh, then I don\u2019t think somebody would have standing to object,\u201d Roth maintained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs long as you move fast enough, nobody has standing to challenge it, even if they have that type of personal connection?\u201d Millett continued to press him.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=791\">We Are Finally Witnessing Trump\u2019s Total Unraveling: Biographer<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I do think that that is correct,\u201d the DOJ lawyer said.<\/p>\n<p>The three-judge panel, composed of Millett, Biden appointee Bradley Garcia, and Trump appointee Neomi Rao, appeared sympathetic to a lawsuit brought by the National Trust for Historic Preservation challenging the construction of the ballroom.<\/p>\n<p>The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. <\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In April, U.S. District Judge Richard Leon issued an order halting construction on the project, though he allowed work on the underground bunker to continue. But a federal appeals court swiftly put Leon\u2019s order on hold, allowing construction to resume until a full hearing is held.<\/p>\n<p>During Friday\u2019s oral arguments, Roth insisted that nothing can stop Trump\u2019s ballroom from getting built.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImagine, statutes were as clear as could be\u2026 \u2018you have no authority to do this,\u2019 and you\u2019ve done it. There\u2019s nothing to be done?\u201d Millett asked. \u201cIf this were complete lawlessness by the government, it couldn\u2019t be stopped?\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cThat is our position,\u201d Roth replied. \u201cThis is really something that can\u2019t be stopped in courts.
