Donald Trump blasted Joe Biden after the former president sued the Justice Department to block the release of audio recordings from a special counsel investigation.<\/p>\n

Trump reacted on Truth Social after it emerged that Biden had filed a federal lawsuit seeking to stop the DOJ from releasing recordings and transcripts connected to interviews conducted during the writing of his 2017 memoir, Promise Me, Dad<\/i>.<\/p>\n

\u201cA Crooked Politician!!!\u201d Trump wrote while reposting an article about the case.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The lawsuit aims to prevent the department from handing the materials over to the House Judiciary Committee and the Heritage Foundation on June 15. <\/p>\n

The conservative group has spent more than a year fighting to obtain the records after raised questions about Biden\u2019s memory and mental sharpness.<\/p>\n

Biden\u2019s lawyers argued the release would amount to \u201can unwarranted invasion of President Biden\u2019s privacy,\u201d noting the conversations took place inside his home while he was reflecting on deeply personal moments, including the illness and death of his eldest son, Beau.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery American, including a sitting or former Vice President, has a right to privacy in the personal conversations he has within his own home,\u201d Biden\u2019s attorneys wrote.<\/p>\n

The filing also accuses Trump\u2019s Justice Department of abruptly reversing the government\u2019s earlier legal position after Trump returned to office this year. Under Biden, the DOJ had of the recordings.<\/p>\n

The recordings became politically explosive after Hur repeatedly cited them in his 2024 report investigating Biden\u2019s handling of classified documents.<\/p>\n

In the report, Hur described Biden as \u201ca sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory\u201d and pointed to what he characterized as \u201cdiminished faculties and faulty memory\u201d during the interviews.<\/p>\n

Biden and his allies fiercely pushed back on Hur\u2019s characterization at the time, arguing the report strayed beyond its legal findings and unfairly amplified concerns about Biden\u2019s age ahead of the 2024 election.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese assertions are not only misleading, they\u2019re just plain wrong,\u201d Biden said at the time. \u201cMy memory is fine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hur ultimately declined to bring charges over Biden\u2019s handling of classified documents, concluding there was insufficient evidence that he had \u201cwillfully\u201d retained or disclosed national defense information.<\/p>\n

Trump, who was facing his own classified documents prosecution at the time, immediately seized on the decision as evidence of a political double standard.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, look, if he\u2019s not going to be charged, that\u2019s up to them. But then I should not be charged,\u201d Trump said. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is nothing more than selective persecution of Biden\u2019s political opponent: me.\u201d<\/p>\n
