{"id":5996,"date":"2026-08-24T14:39:52","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T14:39:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5996"},"modified":"2026-08-24T14:39:52","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T14:39:52","slug":"bezos-washington-post-ordered-to-rehire-columnist-fired-over-charlie-kirk-posts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5996","title":{"rendered":"Bezos\u2019 Washington Post Ordered to Rehire Columnist Fired Over Charlie Kirk Posts"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>The Washington Post has been ordered to rehire a writer who was fired over social media posts she made in the wake of the killing of Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5994\">Judge Jeanine\u2019s \u2018Embarrassing\u2019 Record Exposed as Cases Crumble<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sarah Miller Espinosa, a private arbitrator, ruled that the outlet, owned by billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, did not have \u201cgood and sufficient cause\u201d to fire opinion columnist Karen Attiah and had \u201cviolated\u201d its labor agreement, The New York Times reported.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Post had accused Attiah of violating \u201cthe integrity\u201d of the organization and its employee social media standards by posting about MAGA figurehead Kirk after he was shot and killed on September 10, 2025.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In one post on Bluesky, Attiah wrote that she was \u201cRefusing to tear my clothes and smear ashes on my face in performative mourning for a white man that espoused violence is\u2026. not the same as violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In another post, Attiah paraphrased a 2023 quote from Kirk made during his podcast on the day of his death, stating: \u201cBlack women do not have the brain processing power to be taken seriously. You have to go steal a white person\u2019s spot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Attiah was the last Black columnist on The Washington Post\u2019s staff before her dismissal. Her firing also came months after Bezos demanded that the Post\u2019s opinion section focus on \u201cpersonal liberties and free markets,\u201d in an apparent attempt to appease President Donald Trump after his return to the White House. The newspaper began hemorrhaging subscriptions soon after.<\/p>\n<p>In a September 2025 Substack post, Attiah said the newspaper had \u201crushed\u201d to fire her without due cause, which was \u201cnot only a hasty overreach, but a violation of the very standards of journalistic fairness and rigor the Post claims to uphold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5992\">Trump Slapped With Bombshell Demand Over Spiraling War Costs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Attiah has been fighting the Post for nearly a year, accusing it of violating its labor agreement and social media policy while arguing that her posts were within her purview as an opinion columnist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Washington Post failed to establish the grievant engaged in gross misconduct,\u201d Espinosa wrote in her decision. Espinosa also ordered the Post to compensate Attiah with back pay dating to her dismissal last September.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to the Times, Attiah said that she hoped the decision \u201csends a message to journalists and media institutions everywhere that freedom of expression is always worth fighting for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that she is still \u201cwilling to go back\u201d to the Post, which she called \u201cone of the world\u2019s most storied newspapers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis decision confirms what we\u2019ve said from the start: I was doing my job as an opinion writer, and this was wrongful termination,\u201d she said, adding that she was \u201crelieved to finally have that record set straight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the Post told the Daily Beast that it respects the arbitration process and declined to comment further. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5990\">Putin Humiliated as Wave of Attacks Devastates New Target<\/a><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Daily Beast has contacted Karen Attiah for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Washington Post has been ordered to rehire a writer who was fired over social media posts she made in the wake of the killing of Charlie Kirk.
