The franchise is going simply by \u201cHUT\u201d to mark the start of football season, covering the word \u201cPizza\u201d on some restaurant signs with a large red football banner. The company noted that \u201chut\u201d has been called before football snaps for generations, adding that now \u201cit\u2019s calling your next order.\u201d The company said in a social media post the temporary rebrand will be in place for the next 25 weeks. The transformation comes as the parent company Yum! Brands is preparing to sell the chain in a deal worth $2.7 billion. Private equity firm LongRange Capital agreed to acquire Pizza Hut\u2019s operations outside mainland China for about $1.5 billion, while Yum China will buy the Chinese business for $1.2 billion. Pizza Hut Global CEO Aaron Powell announced on Friday that he will leave the company after the LongRange deal closes, despite being asked to remain in the role. \u201cI\u2019ve always believed in leaving things better than you found them\u2014and this business is in a better state,\u201d Powell wrote on LinkedIn. Pizza Hut is not the first major food chain to shorten an iconic name. Kentucky Fried Chicken became KFC in 1991 to distance itself from negative health connotations, while Dunkin\u2019 Donuts officially became Dunkin\u2019 in 2019.
