{"id":5927,"date":"2026-08-23T14:36:26","date_gmt":"2026-08-23T14:36:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5927"},"modified":"2026-08-23T14:36:26","modified_gmt":"2026-08-23T14:36:26","slug":"duffy-family-reality-show-savaged-by-brutal-reviews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5927","title":{"rendered":"Duffy Family Reality Show Savaged by Brutal Reviews"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>The reviews are in for Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy\u2019s \u201cThe Great American Road Trip,\u201d and they\u2019re horrible.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5925\">Trump\u2019s Son-in-Law Busted in Secret Sit-Down With MAGA\u2019s Nemesis<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Duffy family\u2019s long-awaited series, which features Duffy, his wife, <i>Fox &amp; Friends<\/i> weekend co-host Rachel Campos Duffy, and several of his nine children embarking on a noncontinuous trip across the United States, has seen very low views online, and now it\u2019s getting even worse reviews. <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>While companies that Duffy\u2019s department oversees shelled out hundreds of thousands to fund the reality show on the transportation secretary\u2019s family road trip, The New Yorker\u2019s Jon Allsop gave a brutal take on the series suggesting it may not have been worth it. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIf his show makes a compelling case for anything, it\u2019s less screen time,\u201d Allsop wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Allsop said he was confused by the series as \u201cthe show, as a whole, never seems to figure out whether it is primarily travel or reality, or whether the scenery or the people should be the star.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe creators could have done more to bring out the gorgeous landscapes that the Duffys visited; they could, at least, have fed us some dumb challenges, with alcohol or not. Ultimately, I came away with no idea who the show is supposed to be <i>for<\/i>, although, if its paltry early view count is any guide, the answer might be \u2018no one,\u2019\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018The Great American Road Trip\u2019 certainly had me wondering whether the point was to promote American travel or Duffy himself,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Allsop points to one moment in the show in which Duffy speaks with his daughter, Paloma, about her college options. <\/p>\n<p>While Harvard is on Paloma\u2019s radar, Duffy, a graduate of St. Mary\u2019s College of Minnesota, which boasts a 92 percent acceptance rate, proclaims that the Ivy League institution has \u201cprofessionalized, figuring out how they can take good, young girls like you, and I think corrupt their minds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rachel also offers some of her own advice, saying she always told her children, \u201cMy job isn\u2019t to get you into Harvard\u2014it\u2019s to get you into heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5923\">Vanity Fair Writer Calls BS on Natalie Harp Interview Claim<\/a><\/p>\n<p>To the Harvard bashing, Allsop sarcastically wrote, \u201cBy this point, I was getting a little worried about the separation of church and state. Then I remembered, with relief, that the series was funded by corporate sponsors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Allsop also highlights how the project was funded by private donors, including industry groups that Duffy\u2019s department oversees, like Boeing and Toyota, which each shelled out $1 million. Other sponsors include United Airlines, Shell, Royal Caribbean, Enterprise, and Lyft.<\/p>\n<p>Allsop makes note of the blatant product placement on display in \u201ca trip to Charleston, with a detour to a Boeing plant; a trip to Texas, with a detour to a CRH subsidiary; a trip to Arizona, with a ride in a Waymo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each episode starts with a lengthy disclaimer explaining that the reality show was paid for by sponsors and was not made with taxpayer dollars, even though it has been uploaded to the Transportation Department\u2019s official YouTube channel.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, Allsop has very little good to say about the Duffys\u2019 show.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote: \u201cIronically, given his impeccable credentials, Duffy\u2019s show didn\u2019t come close: to the extent that it trades in \u2018authenticity,\u2019 it is of the performative, Americana-drenched variety that the word has come to signify in politics, despite bearing little relationship to what\u2019s real; nor does the show serve up any conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times\u2019 James Poniewozik gave the show a similarly brutal assessment, describing it as \u201ca soft-focus family album with a faint whiff of advertising.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut what, or who, is being pitched? Toyota and Boeing? The Trump administration?
