{"id":5450,"date":"2026-08-15T16:09:23","date_gmt":"2026-08-15T16:09:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5450"},"modified":"2026-08-15T16:09:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-15T16:09:23","slug":"trump-to-splurge-billions-on-deranged-1940s-obsession","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5450","title":{"rendered":"Trump to Splurge Billions on Deranged 1940s Obsession"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>Donald Trump, 80, is demanding changes to the Navy\u2019s new aircraft carriers that could cost billions of dollars and delay the rollout of the much needed vessels. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5448\">CBS News Star Accused of Sexual Harassment in Bombshell Lawsuit<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Officials told The Washington Post the Navy has been forced to consider changes to the Ford class aircraft carriers because Trump doesn\u2019t like their current \u201clook.\u201d <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The changes would constitute a major ship redesign that would involve moving the tower that serves as the carrier\u2019s command center closer to the middle of the ship, officials said, in order to \u201cresemble older vessels,\u201d like those used in World War II. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The potential redesign is estimated to cost billions more and take years longer than the current budgeted Ford class rollout. <\/p>\n<p>The change was attempted during the first Trump administration but never carried out due to a study that warned of the high costs and subsequent delays. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt came back that the cost and time to do so would just be extraordinary,\u201d a former official said. <\/p>\n<p>But according to the officials, the president is determined to have his way and has again asked for a review. <\/p>\n<p>The Navy\u2019s most recent shipbuilding plan is for 10 Ford class ships, at a cost of $22 billion each. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5446\">Trump Rages at \u2018Treasonists\u2019 in Bonkers Ballroom Rant<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is currently just one Ford class carrier in service\u2014the USS Gerald R. Ford, but there are three more in various stages of construction\u2014the USS John F. Kennedy is undergoing sea trials, and two more are being built. <\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Trump signed a national security memorandum that also called for reverting the catapult on the carriers that help propel fighter jets off the ship\u2019s deck back to the previous steam-powered design, another change that will cost time and money. <\/p>\n<p>The USS Gerald R. Ford has an electromagnetic catapult, one of many new technologies that contributed to the 17-year build time for the ship. <\/p>\n<p>According to the Navy\u2019s own website, Naval Air Systems Command, the electromagnetic catapults are more reliable and efficient than the steam powered ones, and make for a \u201cquieter and cooler work and living spaces for Sailors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They are also cheaper over time, allow for \u201cexpanded operational capability\u201d and \u201chigher launch energy capacity\u201d than the old steam catapult. <\/p>\n<p>According to the Post, changing the placement of the island is also seen by officials as an unwanted throwback to a less safe and efficient time. <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The White House and the Pentagon did not immediately respond to a request for comment. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5444\">31 Deaths Reported in Kitchen Countertop Scandal<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Donald Trump, 80, is demanding changes to the Navy\u2019s new aircraft carriers that could cost billions of dollars and delay the rollout of the much needed vessels.
