Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski\u2019s bid to derail President Donald Trump\u2019s attorney general pick has triggered fury across the MAGA-sphere.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Murkowski, 69, posted a statement on X laying out a list of controversies involving Trump\u2019s attorney general nominee, Todd Blanche, 52, who has served as acting attorney general since April and is now seeking Senate confirmation.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThe country needs an Attorney General who will check the worst impulses of this administration. I hope Mr. Blanche is able to achieve that, if confirmed, but I simply do not have confidence that will be the case,\u201d she wrote. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Murkowski joined Sen. Susan Collins, 73, in opposing Blanche\u2019s confirmation, putting the nomination in jeopardy Friday morning. But Sen. Bill Cassidy, 68, who had been undecided, later announced he would support Blanche, effectively rescuing his confirmation.<\/p>\n

Still, given the stakes of Murkowski\u2019s opposition, prominent figures in the MAGA world have erupted over her criticism of Blanche and her decision to vote against his confirmation. <\/p>\n

Mike Howell of the Heritage Foundation, the group behind the controversial Project 2025, called Murkowski\u2019s decision \u201cabsurd and unprincipled\u201d in response to the Alaska senator\u2019s post on X. <\/p>\n

Howell took particular issue with the senator\u2019s claim that the \u201cpoliticization\u201d and \u201cweaponization\u201d of the Department of Justice has \u201caccelerated\u201d under the current Trump administration, calling Murkowski\u2019s claim \u201cverifiably false.\u201d <\/p>\n

He proceeded to defend Blanche\u2019s controversial \u201cAnti-Weaponization\u201d fund, which has been scrapped after bipartisan backlash, arguing that the initiative was still needed.<\/p>\n

Last week, Blanche\u2019s confirmation vote was delayed after Republican Sens. John Cornyn, 74, and Thom Tillis, 65, withheld their support until he provided written assurances that the proposed $1.776 billion compensation fund for Trump allies was no longer under consideration. The senators have since backed his nomination after saying they received a \u201cformal order terminating the anti-weaponization fund.\u201d<\/p>\n

Right-wing political commentator Benny Johnson, 39, also joined the backlash against Murkowski, accusing the Republican senator of \u201csabotaging Trump\u2019s agenda and subverting the will of the voters over her hatred for him.\u201d He went on to write: \u201cThis is why Republicans lose\u2026” <\/p>\n

In a separate post, Johnson criticized Murkowski for voting to confirm former President Joe Biden\u2019s attorney general pick, Merrick Garland, while refusing to support Trump\u2019s nominees.<\/p>\n

In her Friday post, Murkowski laid out exactly why she would oppose Blanche\u2019s confirmation, citing his handling of the millions of pages of unreleased Epstein files, the anti-weaponization fund, and the \u201csweeping immunity protections\u201d granted to the president, among other concerns.<\/p>\n

Survivors of the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein also issued a statement on Tuesday condemning the Senate vote in favor of Blanche, alleging that he had dismissed their concerns during a meeting, telling them to \u201cget to the point.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative activist CJ Pearson, 24, who brands himself a \u201cGen Z activist,\u201d responded to Murkowski\u2019s statement with a sarcastic jab: \u201cWith Republicans like Lisa Murkowski, who even needs Democrats?\u201d<\/p>\n

Another X user echoed one of Trump\u2019s past attacks on Hillary Clinton by calling Murkowski a \u201cnasty woman,\u201d while a prominent conservative pundit accused her of being \u201cthe worst kind of representative\u201d because \u201cshe only represents herself.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Daily Beast has reached out to Murkowski\u2019s representatives for comment. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Trump has suggested he could leave Blanche as acting attorney general until he has enough Senate support to confirm him. \u201cIf they don\u2019t agree to do what they should do, it\u2019d be very sad, and we\u2019ll all survive. Todd will survive,\u201d he told Punchbowl News on Friday.<\/p>\n

The president also chimed in on the backlash against Murkowski, telling the outlet, \u201cI do more for Alaska than any president in history. No president\u2019s done for Alaska what I\u2019ve done. She\u2019s not good.\u201d<\/p>\n
