But Popp wouldn\u2019t engage.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Senator Mitch McConnell\u2019s senior adviser for communications David Popp declined to respond when asked why McConnell still hasn\u2019t released a video since his hospitalization that began back on June 14 pic.twitter.com\/DxSAm9gtRw<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Nicholas A Ballasy (@NicholasBallasy) August 6, 2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cDavid, can you tell us why Senator McConnell hasn\u2019t put out a video yet?\u201d Ballasy asks as Popp whirls away from him and into an open elevator. \u201cWhat\u2019s going on with the situation?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Popp stays silent as the doors shut. <\/p>\n<p>Popp has worked on Capitol Hill since 2005, according to LegiStorm, and first joined McConnell\u2019s office in April 2016 as communications director. A senior adviser to the Kentucky senator since last January, Popp made over $224,000 in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Other McConnell staffers who have been mute under questioning, like communications director Stephanie Penn and senior communications adviser Robert Steurer, also made over $200,000.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=5044\">Trump\u2019s Ice Maiden Sparks Raging MAGA Civil War<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In announcing his return home, McConnell said he would keep up his Senate work, but did not give a time frame for returning to voting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElaine and I are grateful for the many well wishes and support from friends, colleagues, and Kentuckians, and for the attentive care I\u2019ve received from excellent doctors, nurses, therapists, and hospital staff,\u201d his statement read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the advice of my doctors, I maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I\u2019ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before McConnell put out that statement, Senate Majority Leader John Thune didn\u2019t answer when Ballasy asked whether McConnell\u2019s vote would be needed in a committee or on the floor.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Senate Majority Leader John Thune says he hasn\u2019t been able to visit GOP Sen.
