{"id":4808,"date":"2026-08-03T10:41:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T10:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4808"},"modified":"2026-08-03T10:41:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T10:41:15","slug":"murdoch-paper-tears-into-trump-over-his-tiktok-blunder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4808","title":{"rendered":"Murdoch Paper Tears Into Trump Over His TikTok \u2018Blunder\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>The Rupert Murdoch-owned Wall Street Journal has blasted President Donald Trump for flip-flopping on whether he considers China \u201ca security threat or not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4807\">MAGA Melts Down Over WNBA Coach\u2019s Message to \u2018MAGA Barbie\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The newspaper\u2019s editorial board was referring to a decision by the Department of Justice last month to lift a ban on TikTok, allowing the video-sharing app to be used on federal government devices.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>In 2022, Congress passed a law requiring executive branch agencies to remove TikTok from federal devices over security concerns surrounding its Chinese parent company, ByteDance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>On July 16, the DOJ\u2019s Office of Legal Counsel declared that the law no longer applies after ByteDance sold a majority stake in the U.S. version of TikTok to a group of mostly U.S.-based investors. The Chinese company retained a 19.9 percent stake as part of the deal while continuing to control TikTok\u2019s algorithm and source code.<\/p>\n<p>The Journal\u2019s editorial board suggested the move has effectively created a \u201cback door for Beijing\u201d to harvest data from federal officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDOJ claims the ban no longer applies because TikTok has been restructured. \u2018Congress banned only the version of TikTok that shares the same problematic ownership features,\u2019 DOJ says. Well, no,\u201d the board wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 2022 law banned \u2018any successor application or service developed or provided\u2019 by or owned by its Chinese parent, ByteDance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe supposedly new TikTok is still partly owned by and run on code developed by ByteDance,\u201d it added. \u201cThat means there\u2019s still a risk that ByteDance, and thus the CCP, could surveil federal officials.
