{"id":4799,"date":"2026-08-03T06:11:47","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T06:11:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4799"},"modified":"2026-08-03T06:11:47","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T06:11:47","slug":"trump-awkwardly-explains-his-latest-iran-bait-and-switch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4799","title":{"rendered":"Trump Awkwardly Explains His Latest Iran Bait and Switch"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>President Donald Trump has awkwardly explained the latest backflip in his ongoing war days after threatening Iran with the \u201cbiggest\u201d strikes since World War II.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4797\">RFK Jr. Melts Down in Wild, 15-Minute Clash With CNN Star<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trump, 80, announced the strikes on Friday after being blindsided by a \u201csurprise attack\u201d from Iran being during a temporary pause to his war. <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cWe will be hitting them very hard,\u201d Trump said on Friday during a televised cabinet meeting at Camp David. \u201cAnd you know at some point, they\u2019re going to say, \u2018We just can\u2019t take it anymore.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>By Saturday evening, however, he was calling off scheduled attacks on Iran, now the eighth time he has halted planned strikes during his five-month conflict, according to the Associated Press. <\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Trump then attempted to explain the reason behind his latest backtrack to journalists on Air Force One while en route to Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>Claiming that \u201cwe were all set to go,\u201d Trump said he was \u201casked\u201d to call off the attacks by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and \u201cspecifically\u201d by Iran.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would have been a massive attack,\u201d Trump said, \u201cBut when the allies ask to call it off, you got to sort of say, well, let\u2019s see.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Trump flagged an imminent \u201cdeal on Hormuz and&#8230; I call it the denuclearization of Iran.\u201d Restricted access to the Strait of Hormuz has impacted oil prices, a critical election issue for the president.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said negotiations with Iran will begin on Monday afternoon, but referenced the conflicting messages between himself and Iran over a deal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll see if it\u2019s true,\u201d Trump added. \u201cI\u2019d love to do that. Save a lot of lives. Save a lot of unnecessary power to be honest with you.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Iran said it was nearing a deal with Oman over a new route through the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow international waterway that flows between them in the Persian Gulf, according to the Washington Post.<\/p>\n<p>For months, efforts to quell the war have failed, and Trump has repeatedly claimed a deal is in sight.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4795\">Murdoch Paper Calls Out Trump\u2019s \u2018Signals of Weakness\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Among the back and forth, the U.S. and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire on April 7, which Trump announced two hours prior to a deadline to make a deal ahead of planned strikes on bridges and power plants, warning \u201ca whole civilization will die.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump posted on Truth Social on June 11 that America would attack Iran \u201cVERY HARD TONIGHT,\u201d to take \u201ctotal control\u201d of their gas and oil infrastructures. A few hours later, he announced on his social media platform the strikes were off after successful negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>A memorandum of agreement was signed by the U.S. and Iran on June 17; however, the 60-day ceasefire ended after Iran attacked a Cyprus-flagged ship in the Strait of Hormuz last month, prompting retaliatory strikes by the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Trump spent the first three minutes of his gaggle with the press trying to explain his abrupt change in military tactics, returning to the topic again towards the end of his eight minutes of answering questions.<\/p>\n<p>He used the same language about the size of the strikes repeatedly, saying the U.S. is \u201cready to go anytime we want,\u201d and claimed Iran \u201cobviously&#8230;don\u2019t want to be attacked and they knew they knew the extent of the attack because they saw it forming.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cWould I rather make a deal?,\u201d Trump asked rhetorically. \u201cI\u2019m not looking to kill people, because people die. A lot of people die and we don\u2019t want that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump also added cryptically, \u201cNow there\u2019s a group of people that would like me to just do it, and there\u2019s another group of people that does not want me to do it,\u201d but did not clarify who he was referring to.<\/p>\n<p>The president then claimed his planned strike on Iran would have been \u201cdisastrous\u201d for them. \u201cAnd they didn\u2019t want us to do it,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd frankly Saudi Arabia didn\u2019t want it either.
