Lakers man comes despite long-running acrimony between them, after the commentator criticized James\u2019 NBA-playing son Bronny. <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>In the wake of the president\u2019s bizarre allegation that James may be a \u201cracist,\u201d Smith buried the hatchet, stepping in to defend the new Philadelphia 76ers signing, 41. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cOur president is trifling,\u201d Smith said on his YouTube show on Monday. \u201cWhen you\u2019re calling LeBron James a racist, you know what? You know, it\u2019s really getting ridiculous. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe divisiveness, the way that this man acts, the things that he says, it\u2019s really, really disgusting. And it needs to be said. I think LeBron is\u2014maybe he\u2019s a \u200cracist, but maybe he doesn\u2019t like Trump. I don\u2019t know. I only like people that like me, so I would say Michael Jordan all the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The four-time MVP is about to kickstart his 24th season in the world\u2019s top basketball league, after a glittering career that has seen him light up Los Angeles, Miami, and Cleveland and scoop up three Olympic gold medals. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe gotta call stuff out,\u201d said <i>ESPN First Take <\/i>host Smith, who has in the past flirted with a presidential run as a Democrat\u2014with Trump\u2019s blessing. \u201cWe gotta call it out for what we see. We gotta call it out for what it is. Because the only way that the world is going to become a better place is when we call out trifling tendencies. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if it\u2019s from our president, even if it\u2019s from our commander-in-chief. And this is the latest salvo that he\u2019s thrown in somebody\u2019s direction, ultimately to distract from the job that he\u2019s doing. And we\u2019ve got to call him out on it. We just have to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his defense of James, Smith even acknowledged, \u201cThe LeBron James that I\u2019m talking about\u2014who, by the way, I don\u2019t have the greatest relationship with at all, so nobody\u2019s here trying to support him because I\u2019m anxious to support him&#8230;&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Smith has been a constant critic of James over the years, even saying to Graham Bensinger in February, \u201cWe don\u2019t like each other.
