{"id":4123,"date":"2026-07-23T23:41:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T23:41:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4123"},"modified":"2026-07-23T23:41:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T23:41:16","slug":"trump-humiliated-by-federal-judge-over-assault-on-free-speech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4123","title":{"rendered":"Trump Humiliated by Federal Judge Over Assault on Free Speech"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>The Trump administration has retreated in its attack on TheNew York Times reporters thanks to its own incompetence.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4121\">Trump Humiliated as Americans Dunk on His Pet Projects<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department withdrew its subpoenas on Thursday against three Times journalists who reported on President Donald Trump\u2019s Qatari-gifted luxury jet after a federal judge criticized them for shoddy legal work, according to the Associated Press.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The subpoenas sought to compel the reporters to testify about their sources who provided them with information regarding security concerns with the president\u2019s new Air Force One, and even sought to acquire phone records from the journalists and their relatives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe government is prepared to unilaterally withdraw the subpoenas at this time,\u201d Sean Buckley, a top-ranking official in Manhattan\u2019s U.S. attorney\u2019s office, said at a U.S. District Court hearing, according to the Times.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Arun Subramanian, who was appointed by Joe Biden, blasted the DOJ\u2019s lawyers over their handling of the subpoenas, saying that the government\u2019s behavior turned the law \u201con its head.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSubpoenas are the last step\u2014not the first step, but the last step,\u201d Subramanian said. \u201cWhen you see something like this, if this were a civil proceeding, what I would normally do is ask the parties to show causes why sanctions should not be issued.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ attorneys admitted to making \u201cinadvertent errors\u201d in their filings to the magistrate judge, according to Lawfare senior editor Anna Bower.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4119\">Scott Jennings Makes Key Admission About Mitch Health Crisis<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The judge, however, said that the DOJ could pursue subpoenas again if the proper procedures were adhered to.<\/p>\n<p>The newspaper had condemned the government\u2019s actions as an intimidation effort by the federal government to \u201cpunish the Times for its coverage,\u201d its deputy general counsel, David McCraw, said in a statement on July 15.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to court to defend our journalists\u2019 rights to report freely on the administration and to provide the public with stories that matter,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement shared with the Daily Beast on Thursday, McCraw celebrated Thursday\u2019s decision as \u201can important affirmation of our country\u2019s commitment to a free press.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased that the government finally conceded that the subpoenas violated the law, but they should never have been issued in the first place,\u201d McCraw said. \u201cThe Times and our journalists will continue to report and seek the truth without fear or favor.
