{"id":4064,"date":"2026-07-23T07:11:21","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T07:11:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4064"},"modified":"2026-07-23T07:11:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T07:11:21","slug":"why-trumps-ballroom-bunker-proves-hes-terrified","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4064","title":{"rendered":"Why Trump\u2019s Ballroom Bunker Proves He\u2019s Terrified"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>President Donald Trump is playing right into the authoritarian playbook with his White House bunker obsession, says the historian Dr. Ruth Ben-Ghiat.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4062\">Trump, 80, Botches Lame Nickname for Rising Dem Star<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ben-Ghiat, an expert on fascism and autocratic leaders, tells <i>The Daily Beast Podcast<\/i> that Trump\u2019s $600 million ballroom bunker project is par for the course for a \u201cstrongman\u201d who lives in constant fear.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cThe secret of strongmen is that they live in fear, and this is why they build their bunkers,\u201d Ben-Ghiat said. \u201cAnd Trump\u2019s always talking about, you know, not only the ballroom where people can adulate him and he can get money, but the&#8230; bunker underneath\u2014that\u2019s his safe space.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Ben-Ghiat, a professor of history and Italian studies at New York University, noted that Trump has emphasized the lair\u2019s protective capabilities, including a military hospital, facilities to harbor a \u201cmassive drone capacity,\u201d and a hardened roof made of \u201cimpenetrable steel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe entire roof is built for military,\u201d Trump, 80, told reporters in May. \u201cNot only is it drone-proof, if a drone hits it, it bounces off, it won\u2019t have any impact. But it\u2019s also meant as a drone port that would protect all of Washington.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ben-Ghiat said that the costly project points to a bigger theme with Trump, that \u201che\u2019s always worried about being hunted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the Supreme Leader of Iran was&#8230; killed, he said, \u2018I got him before he could get me,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cAnd this\u2014the hunt or be hunted\u2014is the mentality of the strongman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reached for comment, White House spokesman Davis Ingle emailed an attack on Ben-Ghiat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho the hell is Dr. Ben-Ghiat?\u201d he wrote. \u201cPresident Trump is making the White House and our Nation\u2019s Capital beautiful and giving it the glory it deserves\u2014something everyone can celebrate. Only people who suffer from a severe and crippling disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome would find a problem with that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ben-Ghiat described how these strongmen create an \u201cinner sanctum\u201d around them, composed of family members and sycophants, people she said are constantly subjected to \u201cloyalty tests\u201d and will not ever provide objective feedback to the leader on their actions.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=4060\">Fox News Humiliates Trump With Blistering New Poll<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey want to be adulated,\u201d she said. \u201cSo we\u2019ve all seen the Cabinet meetings where everybody goes round like it\u2019s North Korea and says how great Trump is, and he requires that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause they get paranoid. And the longer they\u2019re in power, the more paranoid they get,\u201d Ben-Ghiat added. \u201cThe more power they amass, the more afraid they are of somebody coming to take it away, or internal plotting, palace coups, this kind of thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The historian explained that because of their sycophantic inner circles, strongmen are unable to course-correct after making poor decisions, often opting to double down instead of fixing their mistakes. And Trump is no different with his tariffs, she noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe more they fear inside that they\u2019re looking like they\u2019re fallible rather than infallible, right? The more they feel they have to do what they want to do,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why these types of leaders often turn to war, Ben-Ghiat said, pointing at both Benito Mussolini\u2019s failures during World War II and Vladimir Putin\u2019s disastrous war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>In a similar fashion, Trump ventured into a war with Iran, which has closed the Strait of Hormuz, killed 18 U.S. service members, and wounded hundreds more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWar is something they do when they\u2019re in this zone because they feel they want to prove themselves to history&#8230; and then it goes badly,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd&#8230; often, that\u2019s the end of them in various ways. They get outvoted, or they lose power. Create instability around them\u2014as in Russia.
