{"id":3673,"date":"2026-07-17T06:40:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-17T06:40:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=3673"},"modified":"2026-07-17T06:40:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T06:40:14","slug":"obama-takes-shot-at-vance-over-marriage-hypocrisy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=3673","title":{"rendered":"Obama Takes Shot at Vance Over Marriage \u2018Hypocrisy\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>Barack Obama has called out JD Vance for taking a hardline stance on who belongs in America while being married into an immigrant family. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=3671\">MAGA Melts Down at Networks Switching Off Trump<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The former president brought up the vice president\u2019s marriage to Usha Vance, who received U.S. citizenship at birth after her parents immigrated from India, while discussing MAGA ideas about who gets to be considered American and the Trump administration\u2019s push to end birthright citizenship.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cAt least one of our major parties has been captured by politics that is not that subtle about suggesting that \u2018we the people\u2019 means a certain kind of people,\u201d Obama said on a podcast with author Malcolm Gladwell. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWhen you have the vice president\u2014the current vice president\u2014making a speech that is basically a blood-and-soil version of \u2018we the people,\u2019 that it matters who your parents were, how long they\u2019ve been here, despite him being married to&#8230; a daughter of an immigrant himself, that echoes, then, ideas about who can be a citizen, who belongs, who gets to make decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Obama, 64, appeared to be referring to a speech Vance, 41, gave at a conservative think tank last year, where the vice president declared, \u201cAmerica is not just an idea. We\u2019re a particular place, with a particular people, and a particular set of beliefs and way of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his speech, Vance rejected the idea that America is a \u201cpurely creedal nation\u201d and railed against people who supposedly argue that only those who believe in \u201cprogressive liberalism\u201d are American.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the people whose ancestors fought in the Civil War have a hell of a lot more claim over America than the people who say they don\u2019t belong,\u201d concluded Vance. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=3669\">Killer ICE Agent Exposed as Bipolar Wife-Beating \u2018Monster\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gladwell, 60, argued that Vance\u2019s marriage is actually a \u201clovely illustration\u201d of how the country has moved \u201cfrom malice to hypocrisy,\u201d noting that a century ago, a vice president could not have made a \u201cnativist argument\u201d while married to the daughter of Indian immigrants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cListen, hypocrisy is progress,\u201d Obama responded. \u201cBecause it means that&#8230; you feel guilty enough to either lie to yourself or others. And that is better than not even thinking about the idea that maybe you\u2019re doing something wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vance\u2019s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. <\/p>\n<p>Vance and Usha share three children, Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel, and are expecting a fourth later this month. <\/p>\n<p>The vice president pushed hard for President Donald Trump\u2019s executive order excluding children born on U.S. soil to parents in the country illegally or under temporary visas from receiving automatic citizenship. <\/p>\n<p>Some speculated that the order could put Usha\u2019s citizenship at risk, since her parents\u2019 immigration status at the time of her birth is unknown, but the order was not retroactive. <\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court struck down the executive order in a 6-3 decision last month, saying Trump lacked the authority to override the citizenship protections guaranteed under the 14th Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=3667\">Trump Rages at Network TV Snub in Unhinged Election Speech<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Vance called the ruling a \u201cmajor mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Barack Obama has called out JD Vance for taking a hardline stance on who belongs in America while being married into an immigrant family.
