A full written opinion is forthcoming.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The lawsuit, filed in 2023, centered on a Post article from May of that year examining Trump Media\u2019s efforts to secure financing ahead of a merger that would take the company public. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Trump Media\u2019s lawyers alleged a \u201cyears-long crusade\u201d by the paper that culminated in an \u201cegregious hit piece.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The merger\u2014with a special purpose acquisition company called Digital World Acquisition\u2014was approved by federal securities regulators in February 2024, and the company debuted on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the ticker DJT the following month.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=3080\">Trump, 80, Tries to Hide Health Problem From World Leaders<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Under the legal standard established by the landmark 1964 Supreme Court case <i>New York Times Co. v. Sullivan<\/i>, public figures suing for defamation must show defendants acted with actual malice\u2014knowingly publishing false information or proceeding with reckless disregard for the truth. The judge found Trump Media hadn\u2019t cleared that bar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased with the court\u2019s decision and look forward to reviewing its written order upon release,\u201d a Post spokeswoman said.<\/p>\n<p>The Post did issue a correction to the original article after discovery in the case concluded, acknowledging that \u201cTrump Media didn\u2019t pay a loan referral fee of $240,000, as was stated in the article.\u201d Trump Media seized on that, calling it a vindication.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter three years, The Washington Post finally admitted its harmful story was false,\u201d a Trump Media spokesperson said. \u201cWe believe a jury should decide whether these falsehoods were actionable and will evaluate whether to appeal last week\u2019s ruling in due course.
