Furious MAGA voices have melted down after The View<\/i> co-host Sunny Hostin claimed she feels \u201cunsafe\u201d when American flags are on display in certain neighborhoods.<\/p>\n

Hostin, 57, who was born in New York to a Puerto Rican mother and African American father, sparked the right-wing furore while reacting to a Reuters photo taken by Cheney Orr on July 4 of a Black woman on the Washington Metro, surrounded by members of the white nationalist group Patriot Front, with their faces covered in masks. <\/p>\n

\n

Hostin said the photo \u201cembodied\u201d her own \u201clived experience\u201d as a Black woman living in America. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Patriot Front\u2019s website says the group wants a \u201chard reset\u201d and a \u201creturn to the traditions and virtues of our forefathers.\u201d The GW center says its goal is to create a \u201cWhite ethnostate\u201d in America.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat for me was a defining image of modern America for a Black American,\u201d Hostin said. \u201cDefining. As a Black woman, I\u2019m sitting there in my country and that\u2019s the type of fear I have to experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the conversation on the topic continued, Hostin returned to a comment she said she initially made \u201cmany, many years ago\u201d on The View<\/i>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are times when I walk into a community and I see American flags all over the community and I suddenly feel unsafe,\u201d Hostin said, without clarifying any location.<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cThere\u2019s a section of this country that has co-opted the American flag and they equate being an American or an American flag with White supremacy and that should never be the symbol of White supremacy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hostin also called the masked Patriot Front members \u201ccowards.\u201d<\/p>\n

Referencing the Ku Klux Klan\u2019s white hoods, Hostin pointed out that Patriot Front members had an American flag on their caps, saying \u201cYou might as well have a hood on, because that\u2019s what it looks like, that\u2019s what it feels like.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative figures were quick to react to Hostin\u2019s comments, without referencing the Patriot Front photo that prompted them.<\/p>\n

Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville shared a clip of Hostin on The View<\/i> with the caption \u201cMental illness.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump-approved author Nick Adams stated on X, \u201cIf Sunny Hostin hates seeing the American flag, she can LEAVE!\u201d<\/p>\n

Christian influencer Bo Loudon, who is the best friend of President Trump\u2019s youngest son Barron, went all caps on X to state \u201cDEMOCRATS HATE AMERICA,\u201d while MAGA commentator April Silverman, who\u2019s handle is CaliMAGABarbie, told Hostin \u201cwhy don\u2019t you GTFO + move to Cuba…\u201d<\/p>\n

MAGA YouTuber Benny Johnson moaned on X, \u201cI\u2019m so tired of hearing these screeching anti-American women on The View that just sit and bitch, complain, and lie about our beautiful country.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIf the Stars and Stripes make you feel so unsafe, you can LEAVE. Nobody is keeping you here. Maybe you\u2019d feel safer living in Iran or Cuba?\u201d<\/p>\n

MAGA-aligned actor Dean Cain shared Johnson\u2019s post featuring The View<\/i> co-hosts, writing \u201cIdiots. Insane.\u201d<\/p>\n

NewsNation host Katie Pavlich posted that \u201cMaybe a `Hate Has No Home Here\u2019 yard sign would make her feel better.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Daily Beast has contacted ABC and the White House for comment.<\/p>\n

Hostin shared a clip of her comments on Instagram, where she received over 14,000 likes. <\/p>\n

Actress Holly Robinson Peete wrote \u201cthank you,\u201d to the host, while one commenter said the Black woman on the train will \u201cbe in the history books,\u201d calling her a \u201cNew century Rosa Parks standing her ground.\u201d<\/p>\n

Monday\u2019s guest host, actress Michelle Buteau, who was born in New Jersey to a Jamaican mother and Haitian father, also referenced the Reuters photograph. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really glad that picture was taken, that picture is how we feel walking into many rooms,\u201d Buteau said. \u201cThat picture is how we feel and nobody will believe us. So look at that picture and understand how it feels.\u201d<\/p>\n
