{"id":2334,"date":"2026-06-27T07:41:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T07:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=2334"},"modified":"2026-06-27T07:41:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T07:41:10","slug":"jd-vance-faces-the-ultimate-clapback-from-pope-leo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=2334","title":{"rendered":"JD Vance Faces the Ultimate Clapback From Pope Leo"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>Pope Leo XIV is gearing up to write new guidelines on when Christians can justify war after JD Vance suggested he was better suited to discuss the topic than the pontiff.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=2332\">Trump\u2019s Tacky State Fair Grinds to a Soggy Halt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pope Leo, who has been targeted by the vice president and President Donald Trump for condemning the deeply unpopular Iran conflict, will hold a secret meeting with the world\u2019s cardinals on Friday to discuss whether the \u201cjust war\u201d theory needs updating in an era of drones, cyber warfare, and nuclear weapons, according to Politico.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>In April, the pope cited the doctrine established by St. Augustine in the fifth century to condemn the war in Iran, noting that disciples of Christ are \u201cnever on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Days later, at a Turning Point USA event in Georgia, Vance\u2014who converted to Catholicism in 2019 at age 35\u2014began feuding with the pope and suggested he should be \u201ccareful when he talks about matters of theology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re going to opine on matters of theology, you\u2019ve got to be careful, you\u2019ve got to make sure it\u2019s anchored in the truth,\u201d Vance added.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Bishop James Massa, one of America\u2019s leading Catholic bishops, issued a scathing statement condemning Vance\u2019s remarks, adding that the Catholic Church has taught for \u201cthousands of years\u201d that wars can be justified \u201cin self-defense, once all peace efforts have failed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=2330\">Trumpy Justice Tries Lame Excuse for Attack on Female Dissenter<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pope Leo has already suggested that the just war doctrine may need to be revised to reflect the modern world. The pope is also reportedly concerned about how the doctrine, in its current form, is being used by world leaders to justify their wars.<\/p>\n<p>Writing last month in an encyclical\u2014an official papal letter outlining the church\u2019s position on a key issue\u2014Pope Leo argued that a doctrine \u201cwhich has all too often been used to justify any kind of war, is now outdated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to reporters aboard a flight to Madrid in June, Pope Leo said the problem with the just war theory is that it was \u201cdeveloped in an era when no one could have imagined the weapons we have today or humanity\u2019s capacity for destruction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Francesco Sisci, director of the Rome-based Appia Institute think tank, added that any changes put in place by Pope Leo to the centuries-old doctrine following Friday\u2019s meeting of cardinals would be a powerful statement from the pontiff.<\/p>\n<p>However, he also believes some cardinals may push to keep it as it is.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s messy,\u201d Sisci told Politico. \u201cIf JD Vance and [tech billionaire] Peter Thiel are claiming Iran is a just war, maybe it\u2019s because there are priests who are lending them credence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=2328\">MAGA Fanatic Accused of Twisted Sex Acts at Trump\u2019s \u2018State Fair\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pope Leo XIV is gearing up to write new guidelines on when Christians can justify war after JD Vance suggested he was better suited to discuss the topic than the pontiff.
