{"id":1527,"date":"2026-06-16T05:42:32","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T05:42:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=1527"},"modified":"2026-06-16T05:42:32","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T05:42:32","slug":"jd-vance-unloads-on-vatican-officials-in-new-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=1527","title":{"rendered":"JD Vance Unloads on Vatican Officials in New Book"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>Catholic convert JD Vance is airing fresh grievances against the Vatican and reflecting on meeting Pope Francis the day before the pontiff\u2019s 2025 death in his new book. <\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=1525\">Trump Throws Vance Under the Bus in Wild Error-Ridden Post<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The vice president met with top Vatican diplomats, including Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican\u2019s secretary of state, while making a stop in Italy on his way to India in April of last year.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Vance, 41, complains in his new memoir that the meeting was \u201cunsettling,\u201d taking aim at Vatican officials for being overly diplomatic and unwilling to have a frank discussion on the issues dividing the Trump administration and the Holy See, according to The Washington Post, which obtained a copy of the book, <i>Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith<\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to Vance, Parolin raised the issue of migration and acknowledged the United States\u2019 right to control its own borders but encouraged the Trump administration to treat migrants humanely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere I was, the most senior Catholic in the United States government, and the Vatican seemed unwilling to move its moral guidance past the point of trite platitudes,\u201d Vance writes, according to the Post. <\/p>\n<p>The vice president adds that the Vatican officials \u201cnever specified\u201d which aspects of the administration\u2019s immigration policies they objected to.<\/p>\n<p>He grants that the diplomats may have avoided specifics \u201cout of a desire to be, well, diplomatic,\u201d but writes that their comments were ultimately \u201ctoo abstract to be helpful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The self-described \u201cbaby Catholic\u201d adds that he was \u201cstruck that one of the few institutions with the moral authority and global perspective to address the migration question seemed so afraid of saying something controversial that it chose, effectively, to say nothing at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=1523\">Acting Legend Makes Shock Mar-a-Lago Revelation on Stage<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Vance writes that he preferred the direct rebukes offered by Francis, who frequently blasted President Donald Trump\u2019s deportation campaign. <\/p>\n<p>By the time the meeting concluded, however, it remained uncertain whether Francis\u2014who was gravely ill\u2014would be able to meet Vance at all, the vice president writes. But on Easter morning, he \u201creceived a text message telling me that the Pope would like to see me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vance writes that Francis was \u201cmore fragile than I realized,\u201d and that he \u201cfelt even worse that he had forced himself out of bed early to meet with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Francis, 88, died less than 24 hours after meeting with Vance. <\/p>\n<p>Vance\u2019s book, which traces his path from evangelical Christianity in his childhood to atheism in his youth and his conversion to Catholicism in 2019, comes amid strained relations between the Vatican and the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Beast has reached out to the Vatican for comment. <\/p>\n<p>Despite being a relatively new Catholic, the vice president has taken it upon himself to school Francis\u2019s successor, Pope Leo XIV, on Catholic theology after the pontiff publicly criticized the Trump administration on multiple occasions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s very, very important for the pope to be careful when he talks about matters of theology\u201a\u201d the vice president said at a Turning Point USA event in April.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Trump, meanwhile, has taken an even more hostile approach, falsely claiming Leo said Iran can have a nuclear weapon, bizarrely calling him \u201cweak on crime,\u201d and telling him to \u201cget his act together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=1521\">James Carville Makes Grim Prediction About Trump\u2019s Future<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Catholic convert JD Vance is airing fresh grievances against the Vatican and reflecting on meeting Pope Francis the day before the pontiff\u2019s 2025 death in his new book.
