It\u2019s an action we look forward to taking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Newsom announced the proposed tax during a <u>press conference on Wednesday<\/u>, where he signed new California election-security measures aimed at limiting outside interference in ballot processing and access to voting records.<\/p>\n<p>Newsom\u2019s proposal echoes a push in New York by State Assemblyman Alex Bores, one of 10 Democrats running to succeed longtime Rep. Jerry Nadler in Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Bores introduced the \u201cAnti-Insurrectionist Act,\u201d <u>a bill that would impose a 100 percent state income tax<\/u> on anyone in New York who receives money from the fund. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s simple, if you\u2019re a New Yorker and you take from this illegal slush fund, New York state will tax 100 percent of it,\u201d he said in a video promoting the bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you storm the Capitol and you take from this slush fund, too bad, we\u2019re taking it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s \u201canti-weaponization\u201d fund was created last week as part of a settlement with the Justice Department after the president <u>sued the federal government for $10 billion<\/u> over investigations tied to the IRS, the FBI\u2019s Mar-a-Lago search, and the Russia probe.<\/p>\n<p>The settlement <u>established a $1.776 billion compensation fund<\/u> that the DOJ said would help people who suffered \u201cweaponization and lawfare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The agreement could also prevent the IRS from reviewing any of his family\u2019s previous tax returns, with an addendum that <u>ends any current tax investigations or audits<\/u> into his own books.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=147\">White House Desecration Even Worse Than Known<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, critics have warned the fund could become a vehicle for rewarding Trump allies and Jan. 6 defendants using taxpayer money. <\/p>\n<p>Newsom directly referenced the Capitol riot while defending California\u2019s proposed tax.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe pardoned all of those folks that were beating up cops and absolved them, providing them 1.776 billion dollars,\u201d the governor said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo not only do you get a pardon, you get rewarded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fund has sparked unease in Washington. <\/p>\n<p>Sen. Ted Cruz said GOP senators were \u201cscreaming\u201d at Attorney General Todd Blanche during a private briefing on the fund last week, describing it as \u201cone of the roughest meetings I\u2019ve seen in my entire time in the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFiery does not begin to cut it, at least half of them were blasting the attorney general, and they were pissed,\u201d Cruz said on his podcast, <i>Verdict with Ted Cruz<\/i><i>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Blanche defended the fund during an interview with CNN, insisting the arrangement was legal and arguing Americans would support compensating people harmed by government \u201cweaponization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re just upset, you\u2019re not getting a dime,\u201d Blanche said. \u201cOn the other hand, I think if you said to the American taxpayer that there is a horrible wrong committed by your government and you can apply, and you can have your lawyer\u2019s fees back, you can be compensated for what you lost financially, what American would say \u2018Oh my gosh, that\u2019s terrible?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fund is now also facing legal blowback after a bipartisan group of 35 former federal judges asked a federal court in Miami to reopen Trump\u2019s lawsuit against the IRS and investigate whether the settlement amounted to \u201cfraud\u201d and an abuse of the judicial system.<\/p>\n<p>In a filing obtained by The New York Times, the former judges argued the agreement raised \u201cprofound questions\u201d about whether the court had been misled and accused the parties of potentially \u201cmanipulation of the judicial system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe purported \u2018settlement\u2019 that was publicly disclosed after this court dismissed this matter raises profound questions about the parties\u2019 candor toward the court,\u201d the filing stated.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Daily Beast reached out to the White House and Justice Department for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/nationwideinterstatemovers.com\/?p=145\">How Bettina Anderson Became the Joker in the Trump Pack<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gavin Newsom wants to confiscate every dollar Californians receive from Donald Trump\u2019s controversial $1.8 billion \u201canti-weaponization\u201d fund.
