Stephen A. Smith held nothing back when responding to President Donald Trump\u2019s attacks on him. <\/p>\n

The prominent sports commentator, whom Trump once encouraged to run for president, has been in a back-and-forth with the president over his attendance at Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs. <\/p>\n

\n

\u201cOur president showed up to New York City last night. And needless to say, what I feared would happen ended up happening,\u201d he said to the backdrop of patriotic music. \u201cThe New York Knicks lost, and obviously I\u2019m blaming him.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWhy am I blaming him, ladies and gentlemen? It\u2019s very, very simple, because the president disrupted our mojo. I\u2019ve said this on many occasions over the last 24 hours and I\u2019m saying it again. The man messed things up,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n

The feud began when, ahead of the Knicks\u2019 brutal loss to the Spurs, Smith said if the Knicks did lose, he was \u201cblaming the president of the United States of America if the New York Knicks.\u201d <\/p>\n

He also called out Trump for \u201cengaging in a level of narcissism that really rakes my freakin\u2019 nerves\u201d as his attendance closed several blocks near Madison Square Garden and prevented die-hard fans from holding a watch party. <\/p>\n

In response to those comments, Trump called Smith \u201ca nice guy,\u201d but asserted, \u201cyou need a certain aptitude to run for president. You need a high IQ, I don\u2019t really think Stephen A. Smith has that.\u201d Trump himself had previously said Smith would make a good presidential nominee.<\/p>\n

But in responding to Trump\u2019s attacks on Tuesday, Smith, a native New Yorker and Knicks fan, spent nearly 10 minutes on his ESPN\u2019s First Take<\/i> laying into the president for several incidents surrounding the event.<\/p>\n

He called Trump out for the chaos that his presence resulted in, including multiple street closures and extremely long security lines.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid you see traffic? Did you see the watch party outside of Madison Square Garden that wasn\u2019t? Did you see thousands upon thousands of faithful New York Knicks fans that were forced to remove themselves from the area?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBusinesses that are accustomed to being patronized were compromised by you because you showed up,\u201d Smith ranted. \u201cThe crowd that surrounded the Madison Square Garden and its surrounding areas, you comprised.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then attacked Trump for appearing to fall asleep during the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd guess what he was doing during the game ladies and gentlemen? Go online, look at the videos. I\u2019m not going to accuse him of snoring, because I wasn\u2019t in earshot, but the brother wasn\u2019t awake,\u201d he said. \u201cHe wasn\u2019t awake.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it was that important for you to be there, why did you look like you were asleep? Didn\u2019t you call out former President Joe Biden, \u2018Sleepy Joe\u2019? Well, what should we call you? Cause you weren\u2019t awake,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cMeanwhile, the New York Knicks, a team you pretend to love\u2026 you turned your back on them. That\u2019s what you did for your own selfish, narcissistic motives,\u201d he continued, adding \u201cAnd now the New York Knicks have to go back to San Antonio. Why? Because you got in the way for your own selfish motives.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Trump\u2019s \u201clow IQ\u201d comments, an insult which the president typically reserves for only Black people he dislikes, Smith said those comments \u201creally, really made me laugh\u201d and revealed that Trump has been dodging him for over a year.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou wanna talk about IQ, I could say I could put my IQ against yours any day of the week,but I could go one better,\u201d he started.<\/p>\n

\u201cI could ask you why you\u2019ve been running from me for the past year since I asked you to talk to me, I could ask you to debate me since you think you\u2019re that dude,\u201d he continued. \u201cWe could go a myriad of ways with all of this, but I am not going to let you off the hook.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith then attacked Trump for the apparent overall vibe change that the president\u2019s presence in the Garden brought to the team. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a sports show, so I won\u2019t go any further than to say that, other than to say [Jalen] Brunson played better when you weren\u2019t there. Mikal Bridges played better when you weren\u2019t there. Karl Anthony Towns played better when you weren\u2019t there. Landry Shamet played better when you weren\u2019t there,\u201d Smith said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe crowd was festive, hyped, and more intimidating when you weren\u2019t there,\u201d He said, adding, \u201cAnd this is what you\u2019ve done. I thought you were a New Yorker Mr. President.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cIt\u2019s clear you need your rest. Isn\u2019t it? The Knicks need it too,\u201d Smith concluded. \u201cGive New Yorkers a break. Stay at the White House, go to Mar-a-Lago, go to Bedminster. Do whatever it is that you gotta do. Just stay the hell away from the New York Knicks for the rest of this series, pretty please with sugar on top.\u201d<\/p>\n
