Starmer, 63, confirmed his departure in an emotional statement outside Downing Street on Monday morning. He told reporters he would quit as Labour leader after concluding he was no longer the man to take the party into the next election. Starmer said he had spoken to King Charles by phone that morning to inform him of his decision.
