NFL Star Arrested for the Second Time in a Week

Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper, 28, was arrested for a second time this month on Thursday night after police say he violated a protection order connected to an ongoing domestic violence case. The latest arrest comes just days after prosecutors added a felony assault charge to allegations stemming from a June 4 altercation with his longtime girlfriend, Jade Fiegen. According to court and jail records, Cooper was booked into the Douglas County Jail in Colorado on charges including violation of a protection order and harassment through repeated telephone calls. Authorities allege Cooper sent multiple messages, made phone calls, and went to his girlfriend’s apartment despite a court order barring contact. She reportedly called 911 after he arrived at her residence. The protection order was issued after prosecutors upgraded charges related to Cooper’s June 4 arrest, adding felony second-degree assault by strangulation and misdemeanor third-degree assault. The case stems from an argument between Cooper and his girlfriend over allegations of infidelity. Last weekend, Cooper appeared to address the situation on Instagram, posting a Bible verse about anger alongside an apology. “I apologize to my family and my friends and my community… And so many others,” he wrote. He added, “I realize posting a bible [verse] after something very serious happens does not just mean everything is okay.” The Broncos said they were “disappointed” to learn of Cooper’s latest arrest and are continuing to review the situation. The NFL also confirmed the matter remains under review of the league’s personal conduct policy. Cooper has pleaded not guilty to the original charges. A motions hearing is set for July 6, with a potential jury trial later that month.
